SoCal Cruising in 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer SEL AWC

I’m a Mitsubishi owner. More specifically, I am a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer owner. When I reached out to my friends at DriveShop to review a car during my SoCal adventure, I was super excited to receive the 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer SEL AWC. I figured, this would be like driving an updated version of my car. The thought of getting a new car had been fluttering in my head so what better car to try out than the one I already have.

The week came for me to leave for my trip and this happened to my car. To say that I was and am still devastated is an understatement. California could not come fast enough.

Once we arrived, valet brought out this fly Diamond White Pearl exterior with black interior Lancer and a feeling of familiarity and “home” came over me. I was thinking “This is my car, but in a different color”. Boy was I wrong. I later learned this was my car’s younger, hotter brother who has all the girls fawning over him.

First let’s talk about the look of the car. The Diamond White Pearl color sparkled in the sunlight. I’m such a fan of leather seats so I was glad to see a sleek black leather seats. What initially drew me to purchasing my Lancer was the sporty look without the super harsh hedges. The same still holds true for the 2016 version, but now it looks even sportier, but still without looking super harsh.

Inside the car was extremely spacious. How many bloggers, assistants, and conventions and visitor bureau reps can fit into the Lancer? We successfully and comfortably fit six.

Let’s discuss the AWC in the 2016 Mitsubishi Lancer SEL AWC, All Wheel Control Electronically Controlled 4 Wheel Drive system. For someone who’s really not into the makings of cars, this is a foreign language so I had to research it. This system exploits the capability of all four wheels of the car in a balanced way to assist with handing and performance. You could even select the mode to alternate from 2WD, 4WD Auto and 4WD Lock. This system was developed by Mitsubishi Motors.

Fuel economy on the 2016 Lancer was pretty impressive as well. Average is 26 combined city and highway miles per gallon with 23 city and 31 highway. That doesn’t seem like a lot, but we drove in Irvine, Laguna Beach, Westminster, San Diego, La Jolla, Newport Beach, and Los Angeles and only used 1 1/4 tanks of gas. I feel like we drove all over SoCal and used very little gas. This was a huge difference from my 2009 version.

Other features include:

  • Touch panel display audio system
  • FUSE Hands-free Link System with Bluetooth technology and USB port
  • Rear-view camera system
  • Auto-dimming rear-view mirror
  • Anti-locking Braking System
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System
  • Heated side-view mirror
  • HUGE trunk space

What does a 2016 Lancer 2.4 SEL AWC with all of these features and more cost? $21,995 MSRP. Considering everything that you get ESPECIALLY with the AWC, that is not a bad price at all! The idea of getting a new car is still fluttering through my mind and I’m proud to say that the 2016 Lancer is definitely on my list of possibilities.
