Shreveport Derby Day – 5 Reasons to Attend + GIVEAWAY

Saturday at 2:00 pm it is going ALL the way down on the lawns of R. W. Norton Art Gallery with the 3rd Annual Shreveport Derby Day, Presented by Landers Alfa Romeo FIAT. Men and women alike will don their finest Spring attire for THE party of the season.

Surely by now you already have your tickets, but just in case you don’t here are my five reasons why you should attend Shreveport Derby Day in no particular order:

Sparkling Wine!

Jason Brady and the Wine Country team have upped the bar ante this year. In addition to Mint Juleps, Lily Roses, and Great Raft Brewing Beer, the team will also be pouring sparkling wine. I’ve told you all several times that I am a sparkling wine girl so this addition speaks directly to me and many others! Pass the bubbly please!

You get to jam to live music from John Lisi and the Delta Funk!.

Known for “slammin’ funky blues out of New Orleans”, John Lisi and the Delta Funk! will bring their signature sound to Shreveport Derby Day. Lisa, a New Jersey native admits he really didn’t learn soul until New Orleans became his second home. ““In Louisiana, I learned to play with soul and not think about what I learned everywhere else” he said. Lisi’s debut was in 2002 and his first two albums with the Delta Funk!, were followed by significant work with Big Chief Monk Boudreaux, that amounted to a 2006 co-write called “Rising Sun,” and years after, Big Chief Monk’s 2011 album “Won’t Bow Down.”

Peach Pepper Pork Tenderloin!

This year’s caterer, Chef Blake Jackson with Drake Catering will be dishing up his overnight brined pork tenderloin seared and finished off in house pepper jelly glaze with fresh peaches served slice over a bed of sweet potato hash (caramelized onion, shallots, sweet potato). With this dish, Blake wanted to make a lighter, figure friendly dish to accompany the other dishes on his Shreveport Derby Day menu. It is a complete nod to Prepared Nutrition, his meal prep service. Delicious and good for you? Definitely sign me up for this!

When else can you party on the lawns of R. W. Norton Art Gallery?

Although the Norton is combatting their former reputation of being super stuffy and uptight, we all still have memories of the gallery’s past. AND while it is not a free for all over at Norton, there really isn’t another event where you can really party on their grounds outside of Shreveport Derby Day. The layout this year will be wider and stretch further across the property. There will be food stations in various parts and eight bars across the lawn. Take this opportunity to be “taboo” and party it up!

Jane Ryder’s spirit will be there.

A few days after last year’s Shreveport Derby Day, official headwear aficionado, Jane Ryder transitioned from her assignment in this life. In addition to everything else that she was, Jane was Shreveport Derby Day. Jane Ryder Millinery was a sponsor, she created countless custom hats and fascinators for attendees, and she even served as a judge for the best dressed/best hat contests during the inaugural celebration. I can’t help but to think that Jane’s spirit and several of her hats will be in attendance on Saturday and that makes me smile.shreveport derby day, things to do in shreveport, kentucky derby shreveport
