Palomar San Diego – Sexy Luxury

*DISCLAIMER* The Palomar San Diego took great care of me with a complimentary stay, however, all opinions are 100% my own.

Since I have embarked on this new travel writer lifestyle, I have been blessed to go to places I never even thought about visiting before. San Diego was one of those places. I’ve always heard how beautiful it was but it never crossed my radar to put on my list of places to visit. You know when we create bucket lists, we go all out with the Maldives, Bora Boras, and Abu Dhabis of the world. I’m so glad that my friend Brandy suggested San Diego for us to visit while we were in southern California.

I’ve been a Kimpton fan for a while, but I’ve never stayed in one of their properties. I have passed by some in different companies and even went to visit some friends in one in DC. San Diego was finally my turn and time. It was my time for Kimpton and me to become intimately acquainted. It was time for Kimpton to go ahead and become bae.

 *waving* Hey Kimpton!

If you’re not familiar with the Kimpton brand, they specialize in boutique hotels and amazing restaurants. I briefly told you about one of their restaurants, Saltbox, here in my Eating in San Diego story. Click here to check it out if you haven’t already. The hotels feature beautiful decorations, incredibly helpful concierges, and perks galore.

San Diego is home to two Kimpton properties, the Palomar and Solamar. Since the focus of my trip was the Gaslamp Quarter, Palomar was where we landed. I wouldn’t be lying if I said the Palomar is the swankiest boutique hotel I have ever stayed in. Located in the northern part of the Gaslamp Quarter, they left no stones unturned when it came to luxury, sophistication, and style.

I posted this on Instagram but can we really discuss this door? This is what greeted us. How gorgeous is this?! Ok, let me just be extremely honest about this adventure. I really didn’t do that much research on the hotel before I went. I looked on good ole trusty TripAdvisor to look at the rooms to make sure they met my standard (I have hotel anxieties) and I went from there. This door was a complete surprise to me. What was behind the door floored me for a minute.

We walked into what didn’t look like a typical hotel lobby. I was honestly confused as to where the front desk was because the lobby looks like an ultra lush, high-end living room. Rich browns, golds, and creams filled the space with beautiful art. After getting my bearings, I realized where the front desk was and learned that we had been upgraded to a Skyline Suite! SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!

The Palomar San Diego features four levels of rooms- 30 Skyline View Guestrooms, 12 Skyline Corner Studio Balcony Rooms, 6 Skyline View Suites, and 2 Skyline Penthouse Suites. We completely scored with being upgraded to the Skyline Suite. Did you check out my video tour on Facebook of our suite? Click here to view it!

Our room featured a living room with a sectional with a sleeper, 2 balconies, bedroom with a king bed, and bathroom with a shower that multiple people could fit in. Check out the video for more details about my favorite part of the room, the 2 balconies.

So many words can be used to describe the Palomar but in my exploration of the property outside of the rooms, I settled on SEXY. When we were checking into our room, I had to use the restroom so I was forced to use the communal hotel bathroom. If you know me then you know in addition to hotel anxieties, I have public bathroom issues.

I NEVER use them if I don’t have to. After years of practice, I’m a camel so it’s only dire situations that I visit them. With that being said, I had to go to the restroom. I am happy to report that even though this was a “his and hers” restaurant, I was not attacked by anyone while handling my business. What I was attacked by was a gorgeous bathroom with secret stall doors. Marble, marble everywhere! When I went in, I didn’t have my camera so I went back later to snap up some pics. This is how much I enjoyed that bathroom. Jesus is moving in my life about me and bathrooms. Hallelu!

Outside the bathroom, there was a seating area that was once a part of the hotel before moving it downstairs and to the other side. The seating area was filled with brown couches, and this incredible wall that caught my attention. Since we are all adults here, I will say “moan” and “trembling” caught my attention and made me want to read more of the wall. I think my brow was glistening and I needed a cigarette when I was done reading. Via Instagram, the Palomar told me it’s called the “Whisper Wall”. COME ON AND WHISPER TO ME! Sorry my Scorpio was just hanging out. I’ll tuck it back in.

Aside from the aesthetic of the Palomar San Diego, they have some pretty sweet perks including but not limited to

  • Yoga Mat and complimentary Yoga channel
  • Complimentary hotel bike to get out and explore the area
  • Infinity-edged outdoor heated pool
  • Onsite destination spa
  • High-speed WIFI
  • Pet friendly
  • 24/7 Business Center

Palomar, I miss you!

When I’m in San Diego again, the Palomar will be where I’m staying again. I just need to know how I can get hooked up to stay in one of the Skyline Penthouse Suites.

Have you stayed at a Kimpton property before? How was your visit?
