Julia Pearl fills void in Plano

Tonight is the night. Julia Pearl Southern Cuisine will open its doors for dinner.

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the media night for Julia Pearl in Plano, TX. The restaurant is the brain child of Darcy Dudley and his partners in the Trendine Restaurant Group.

Dudley noticed a void in the DFW market for “good Southern food”. The recent closure of Button’s in Addison, made an even bigger void. He wasn’t sure how or when, but he was confident that it would happen. He wasn’t alone in his uncertainty. Dudley told us that his wife was skeptical as well.

“We would drive down this highway going to church every Sunday. I would tell my wife ‘That’s going to be my building’ and she would look at me like ‘Yeah right!'” Dudley said.

At that time, the building was occupied but something told Dudley that was going to be his restaurant and now he has it.

“It was destiny that we’re here” he said.

Julia Pearl is named after his wife’s grandmother Julia and his grandmother Pearl. Dudley and the Trendine Restaurant Group have brought in Chef Tre Wilcox as the Culinary Director and Chef Jermaine Brown as Executive Chef.

If the name Tre Wilcox seems familiar, it’s because he was a contestant on Bravo’s Top Chef Season 3 and Top Chef All-Stars. Wilcox will bring his expertise in menu and recipe development, staff training, restaurant operations and more. Chef Jermaine Brown will lead the troops in the kitchen daily.

Diners will feast on traditional Southern dishes with a modern twist; Julia and Pearl’s Chicken wings with various sauces, Deviled Eggs topped with crispy chicken skin, Black-Eye Pea Hummus, Fried Green Tomatoes, Cornmeal Crusted Catfish and more.

If the media night was an indicator or what’s to come, diners are in for a treat at Julia Pearl’s Southern Cuisine. I definitely see some dinner trips to Plano in my future.
