Day 6 of my 12 Days of Shreveport/Bossier City Christmas Giveaways is finally here!

No visit to Shreveport is complete without visiting Chef Orlando Chapman’s Brothers Seafood for a meal whether it’s for some dirty rice, hamburger steak or “Shreveport-style” (Thanks Chris Jay for this term) stuffed shrimp.

fonda's special

Here in Shreveport, it’s still a mystery about who created the stuffed shrimp and my buddy Chris Jay did some investigating. You can read about some of his findings here. For me, I’m really not concerned about who created the stuffed shrimp. I’m simply concerned about who makes delicious ones now, Brothers Seafood.

fonda's special 1

Chef Orlando Chapman’s Brothers Seafood is part of the Freeman & Harris Cafe legacy that dates back to 1921. When Freeman & Harris closed, it was said to have been the oldest continuously operating African-American family owned restaurant in the United States. The late Willie “Brother” Chapman began in the kitchen at Freeman & Harris in the 1950’s and later served as secretary of the corporation. “Brother” Chapman shared his love of food and the kitchen with his son the late Chef Orlando Chapman. In continuing with his father’s tradition, Chef Orlando Chapman opened Chef Orlando Chapman’s Brothers Seafood to serve the Shreveport/Bossier City and ArkLaTex area.

mayors special

While my favorite meal from Brothers is the Mayor’s Special (2 chicken fried steaks with brown gravy) and french fries, you cannot go to Brothers and not experience the seafood and tartar sauce. Don’t think the tartar sauce that’s in packets or big name brand that’s in the squeeze jars in the store. You know what I mean, mayonnaise with pickle relish and maybe some seasoning. This is not that. This is deliciousness in a jar.

I want to share this experience with one lucky subscriber! That’s right! Today’s giveaway is 2 jars of Brothers Seafood “World Famous” Tartar sauce.

Hey, thanks for the shout-outs, Jada! Once in a while, I love a fried shrimp platter or even some frog legs, but honestly I think fried catfish is my favorite. But those stuffed shrimp we have in Shreveport are pretty hard to beat, too.

    • lovingthislifejada@gmail.com December 15, 2014 09.57 am

Chris I’m a fried catfish girl myself so I definitely understand. The catfish has to be “fried hard” though.
