Are You a Razzoo?

Saturday, my family and I experienced Razzoo’s Cajun Cafe in Tyler, TX for the first time. Razzoo’s Cajun Cafe is a 20 year old restaurant brand with 17 locations in Texas. Razzoo’s prides itself on being a fun atmosphere where guest can get great food and great service. That is exactly what we experienced. We arrived around 4pm with a party of 6. We were warmly greeted by a smiling hostess and cajun themed decor. In the entry of the restaurant there is a colorful bottle fixture so once in our seats, I glanced up to be surprised by a opossom dangling over our table. Because of the lighting and decor, you feel like you are in a upscale shack in the bayou. That’s not a bad thing at all.

Our server Phillip came over immediately to get our drink orders. He gave us suggestions and was very friendly. We looked over the menu and decided on our food. I picked the stuffed shrimp over dirty rice served in a cast iron skillet. My shrimp were filled with a crab stuffing served over dirty rice all topped with a creamy sauce. You can’t go wrong with something served in cast iron. My mom had the Creole Pork Chops which were topped with a creole mustard sauce and served over creamy mashed potatoes.
My daddy, son, sister and brother in law decided to tackle the Jaws Seafood Platter. The Jaws Seafood Platter looked as intimdating as the name sounds. The menu says this platter serves 4 regular folks or 2 cajuns. It really could feed about 6 or 7. This huge platter was overflowing with fried alligator, shrimp, oysters, catfish, crawfish tails, fries, fried pickles, and jalapeno hushpuppies. Tartar sauce and a cherry mustard sauce came on the side. There was something special about the combination of the fried pickles and the cherry mustard sauce. My mouth is watering now just thinking about it. All the seafood was fried perfectly! The coating was crispy and the meat was tender. We originally planned to have bread pudding for dessert but after feasting on all our plates, we were too full to eat anything else. Throughout our entire meal, our server Phillip constantly checked on us and made sure our drinks were always full. We truly had great food and great service. Razzoo’s your mission is accomplished.
