Travel Guide: 48 Hours in Barcelona

Barcelona. Interesting, aged, embodiment of a beautiful city.

My very first international trip took me all the way to Barcelona, Spain. I loved all 48 hours of my visit and the city left me wanting for me. Although my time there was limited, I was able to do enough to make a mini guide for you all to navigate some of Barcelona in 48 hours.

W Barcelona
Plaça de la Rosa dels Vents, 1, Final Passeig de Joan de Borbó
Barcelona, 08039, Spain

Dominating the Barcelona skyline with its sail shaped structure, the W Barcelona is a sight to see and experience as it overlooks the Mediterranean Sea. The 473 rooms, 67 suites five star hotel opened its doors on September 1, 2009 and has since transformed the Barceloneta Beach area from a seedy area of the Port of Barcelona to an area that is booming with many restaurants and shops.

W Hotels are always hip and fun and the W Barcelona is no different. Your senses are immediately taken over when you enter the property from the bright colors, chic music, delicious smells, and beautiful people. In June 2017 the hotel announced two exciting partnerships: a limited edition sneaker collection created by Barcelona artist Ricardo Cavallo and W Sound Suite Recording Studio which was the brainchild of Lady Gaga producer Paul “DJ White Shadow” Blair.

The hotel features the 11 traditional W level rooms: Cozy, Wonderful, Wonderful Sky, Fabulous, Fabulous Sky, Studio Suite, Cool Corner Suite, Marvelous Suite, Spectacular Suite, Wow Suite, and Extreme Wow Suites. On my visit, I enjoyed a Fabulous Sky Room. The Fabulous Sky Rooms offer breathtaking city and sea views, W signature bed, rainfall shower, amenities out the wazoo, and interesting wall lighting in the shape of the Barcelona city grid that changes the mood from day to night. Rooms start at 240 Euro which is about $274 and the views alone are worth every penny. Definitely stay at the W Barcelona when in Barcelona.

Sagardi BCN Gòtic Restaurant
Carrer de l’Argenteria 62
08003 Barcelona, Spain

I randomly encountered Sagardi BCN Gotic Restaurant and I am glad that I did. When visiting a bar in the El Borne part of Barcelona, the Americans were hungry, so off we went to find a quick snack. Tapas is the first food group in Spain so tapas bars are everywhere. We hungrily stumbled into the first one we saw and my stomach was pleased. Sagardi operates on the toothpick system. You eat all of the tapas you want and you pay by the toothpick. At $2.40/ toothpick the meal is super affordable and delicious. We walked up to the bar, received a plate, ate all the tapas we wanted, paid, and left within 10 minutes. Talk about fast, but not fast food. Even if you don’t try Sagardi, you should definitely hit up a toothpick based tapas bar. They are fast, affordable, and delicious.

Bonus Luxury Eat: Arrange a private dinner at a secret location

The W Hotel prides itself on being able to do and provide everything imaginable for guests to enjoy their stay while in Barcelona and an example of that is the private dinner that we had at a secret location in the city. Words cannot describe how incredible this meal was so just check out the pictures.

WHAT TO DO:

Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya
Palau Nacional, Parc de Montjuïc, s/n,
08038 Barcelona, Spain

Over 1000 years of history is held in the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya. I have to admit that I am normally not a museum girl, but this museum was very interesting. Collections include Romanesque, Gothic, Modern Art, and more. My favorite part of the museum, however was not the art itself, but the rooftop which provided views of all of Barcelona. Cheers!

Dr. Stravinsky
Carrer dels Mirallers,5,
08003 Barcelona, Spain

Dr. Stravinsky is a craft cocktail bar in the El Born area that looks like you have entered into a bartender’s laboratory. Medicine bottles line the walls with tinctures for tasty sips and the bartenders are very knowledgeable on how to make a good cocktail. The visuals in the place alone are enough for a visit, so the good cocktail is really just the icing on the cake.

Bonus Luxury Do: Arrange a catamaran trip in the Mediteranean.

Well of course the W Hotel has its own catamaran. Before arriving at the property, contact them about arranging a private trip in the Mediterranean. Barcelona luxury at its finest is a private catamaran, a DJ, cava, and the Mediterranean Sea. Estaba viviendo mi mejor vida!

Spend more than 48 hours in Barcelona

Although I enjoyed every single moment that I was in Barcelona, I wish that I had more time to explore. Two days was not enough time at all so I encourage all of you when you visit, to find the time to explore all of the things. The people are friendly, the food is delicious, the cava is overflowing, and I can’t wait to get back to Barcelona!
